Cardiac MRI and 4DFlow
This continuing education course is designed to address critical gaps in radiology professionals’ knowledge and skills, focusing on improving diagnostic accuracy, enhancing patient safety, and mitigating malpractice risks in MRI imaging. Through expert-led modules, learners will develop the competence to interpret advanced cardiac MRI and 4DFlow pulse sequences, assess blood flow rates, and integrate time as the 4th dimension for comprehensive cardiac evaluations. Additionally, participants will gain actionable skills in MRI safety protocol development, understanding magnetic field forces, and utilizing alternative contrast agents like Ferumoxytol to reduce risks such as nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF).
By mastering these topics, learners will enhance patient care, improve imaging outcomes, and implement robust processes to prevent injuries and ensure high standards in MRI practices.
Learning Objectives
- Evaluate the current trends and outcomes of medical malpractice suits in medical imaging.
- Identify and analyze MRI-related injuries based on reviewed data and incident reports.
- Explain the principles of magnetic field forces, radio frequency heating, and gradient switching.
- Define and describe the responsibilities of a magnetic resonance safety officer and assess how this role contributes to overall MRI safety protocols.
- Develop a process for investigating and documenting implants and other potential patient hazards.
- Illustrate how structured investigation and hazard management processes can both prevent MRI-related injuries and optimize patient care outcomes, using real-world examples.
