MR Safety: Review of the Principles and Current Standards

The increasing frequency of MRI-related adverse events highlights the need to address knowledge gaps in MR safety protocols and preventative measures. This course will review recent accidents, analyze contributing factors, and provide strategies to mitigate risks, such as enhancing patient and equipment screening, defining safety zones, and emphasizing the role of trained personnel and safety officers. 

At the end of this course participants will be equipped with a comprehensive understanding of MR safety principles, practical skills for risk prevention, and actionable steps to implement effective safety measures that align with current standards, ultimately fostering a safer imaging environment.

  1. Identify recent accidents and analyze the circumstances surrounding their occurrence.  
  2. Explain the underlying reasons for MRI accidents and their contributing factors.  
  3. Describe preventative measures that can be implemented to enhance safety.  
  4. Distinguish the responsibilities of workers in maintaining awareness compared to those of Safety Officers.
